How do I upgrade my Estimating databases and estimates?
Description
Cause
Resolution

Estimating databases and estimates will be upgraded "on the fly" when you access them with your newly upgraded version of Sage Estimating. During this process, the database and estimates are automatically backed up to a folder called PEBackup before being upgrade. You will only be prompted to upgrade the file one time. You must still follow the instructions below for upgrading Address Book if allowing databases and estimates to upgrade on the fly.

You may wish to use Estimating Tools to upgrade all of your databases and estimates at one time.

Before you upgrade, review the following information:

  • The database must remain in the folder specified when you created the estimate.
  • Databases must be converted before you convert estimates. This happens automatically if the database and estimate are in the same folder.
  • All estimates in a chosen folder will be upgraded regardless of whether it ihas already been upgraded to the current version.
  • If you have already completed a full backup of all the files, you can uncheck the "Make a backup" option to save disk space.
  • The upgrade will take a very long time and files must not be in use during the upgrade.
  • Turn off the following during the installation:
    • Anti-virus software
    • Backup software
    • Microsoft Exchange e-mail software

To upgrade Sage Estimating databases, estimates or *.MIM files, follow these steps:

  1. Back up your data files. For additional information on which files to back up, select the link below.
  2. In Estimating Tools, from the File menu, select Upgrade Files.
  3. Select the Upgrade option.
  4. Select the folder containing the files you want to upgrade. If necessary, click Browse to navigate through the folders on your computer.
  5. Complete the remaining fields in the window.
  6. Click Finish to begin upgrading the selected files.

NOTE: If Estimating Tools cannot upgrade an estimate because it cannot find the associated database, use File Tools to move the estimate and database into the same folder and upgrade the single estimate. Answer Yes when asked if you want to use the database that is in the same folder as the estimate.

To Upgrade the Address Book:

  1. You can find the location of your address book in Estimating, Database, Database Settings, Company folder.
  2. Click Start, All Programs, Sage, Sage Construction and Real Estate, Estimating, TS-Main
  3. Select the Company folder
  4. Click Tools, Upgrade files, Select all files from the current folder
  5. Click Start, you will be prompted for a file name and location for the upgrade log.
  6. You can monitor progress on the Background Tasks window (T icon on your Windows task bar.)
  7. Files are upgraded when the status reads, "Completed Normally"
  8. Exit TS-Main

Note: Beginning with the upcoming 17.1 version of Sage Estimating you will not be able to upgrade data from v4.0 (pre-Pervasive) Estimating. You will need to upgrade these older data files with v16.1 or earlier.
