Obsolescence message in release 2024:
Check for updates
- Close the program.
- Right-click the shortcut and then select Run as Administrator.
- Select Services, Check for updates, Check Now. Click OK on the message that there are no updates to install.
- Close the program and reopen.
- Go to Services and verify that the Obsolescence Information no longer shows on the menu.
If it still appears, follow the steps below to replace the OBSRET.DAT file with an updated version.
Replace the OBSRET.DAT file in the data path
- Go to the Sage 50 data path directory. See How to find the data path and program path.
- Locate the OBSRET.DAT file.
- Rename the OBSRET.DAT file to OLDOBSRET.DAT.
- Unzip the attached 2024 OBSRET.zip file and copy the extracted OBSRET.DAT into the Sage 50 data path directory.
- Verify that the obsolescence message no longer appears. If the problem still occurs, contact Sage support.

Install the latest version
Ensure you're on the latest version, as release 2023 and earlier are no longer supported. If you have a current Business Care plan, you're entitled to the latest version of the program.
- Obtain your serial number. Your serial number is available in your Customer Portal account.
- Download the latest version of the program, available at https://sage50accounting.com/support.
- Install the latest version. See Installation instructions - Sage 50—U.S. Edition.
