What do I need before I install Sage BusinessWorks?

• A product code if installing for the first time or on a new server or computer
  • Enter the product code from the email you received with your registration information

Do I have to upgrade?

• You must be on a current release of Sage BusinessWorks to access customer support for phone, chat and other assistance as well as current payroll tax table updates
  

How do I know what release I am using?

• In Sage BusinessWorks, select Help and then About
• The Version installed will be on the first line
  

What is the upgrade process like?

There are three parts to the upgrade process

• Prepare:
  • Check to see if your system meets new DocLink: system requirements
  • Print the DocLink: installation instructions so you have them handy
• Download:
  • Go to the Sage Customer Portal
  • Login
  • Select the Downloads link in the upper right
  • Select your product
  • The available downloads will be listed

• Install
  

How long does it take to upgrade?

• The download is approximately 310 MB. On standard internet connections the download will complete in under 15 minutes but this depends on the download speed of your internet connection.
• The installation speed depends on the computer: how much memory, how much free space on the hard drive and processor speed.
• On average installation takes about 20 to 30 minutes from start to finish depending on the computer and network
• The server installation typically takes longer than the workstation installation
• If installing on a network, the program will be installed on the server first. After the server installation is complete the client installation should be installed on each computer that will be accessing Sage BusinessWorks.
• After the installation, each company may need to be converted. The time to convert will depend on the size of the database, speed of the computer and how many versions the database has to be converted through (for example, if the database is currently in version 2015, it will take longer to convert than a database in version 2018)

Is Sage BusinessWorks an upgrade or a new installation?

• Sage BusinessWorks is available as a full installation file or as an upgrade
• If Sage BusinessWorks is already installed, the program will upgrade necessary files

Which machine gets upgraded first?

• When using Sage BusinessWorks on a network, the computer hosting the data (the server) must be upgraded first
• Once the server or host computer has been upgraded, the client installation should be performed on each workstation that will be accessing Sage BusinessWorks
• Users should not access the Sage BusinessWorks product until all workstations have been completely upgraded

Can I keep all my settings when I upgrade?

• Your personal settings and default forms will be retained when you upgrade

Will I need to convert my data after upgrading?

• After installing an upgrade from an older version, an update of your data may be required. The Database Update wizard will launch automatically the first time each company is opened in the new version of Sage BusinessWorks
