What do I need before I install Sage BusinessWorks?

  • A product code if installing for the first time or on a new server or computer
    • Enter the product code from the email you received with your registration information
    • Important: Entering the incorrect product code will cause registration issues with your product. If you’re unsure contact Sage Customer Support using the Live Chat link below
  • Verify your system meets or exceeds the system requirements
  • User must be local administrator to the computer

Do I have to upgrade?

  • Be on a current release of Sage BusinessWorks to access customer support for phone, chat, and other assistance and current payroll tax table updates

How do I know what release I’m using?

  • In Sage BusinessWorks, select Help and then About
  • The Version installed will be on the first line

What is the upgrade process like?

There are three parts to the upgrade process

  • Install

How long does it take to upgrade?

  1. Download: The file is about 310 MB and should take under 15 minutes to download, depending on your internet speed.
  2. Installation: Takes about 20-30 minutes, depending on your computer's memory, hard drive space, and processor speed.
  3. Server vs. Workstation: Server installation usually takes longer than workstation installation.
  4. Network Installation: Install the program on the server first, then on each client computer.
  5. Database Conversion: After installation, convert each company's database. The time needed depends on the database size, computer speed, and the number of versions to convert through.

Is Sage BusinessWorks an upgrade or a new installation?

  • Sage BusinessWorks is available as a full installation file or as an upgrade
  • Once the installation is complete, the system will automatically upgrade any necessary files 

 

Which machine gets upgraded first?

  • Upgrade the computer hosting the data (the server) first when using Sage BusinessWorks on a network
  • After upgrading the server or host computer, install the client on each workstation that will access the Sage BusinessWorks program
  • Users must not access the Sage BusinessWorks product until all workstations have been upgraded

 

Can I keep all my settings when I upgrade?

  • The upgrade retains your personal settings and default forms

 

Will I need to convert my data after upgrading?

  • You may need to update your data after installing an upgrade from an older version. The first time you open each company in the new version of Sage BusinessWorks, the Database Update wizard will launch automatically
