Convert legacy Sage Timeslips data to Sage Timeslips Premium
Description

When you upgrade from an earlier version of Sage Timeslips, you must convert your old data for use with your new version of Sage Timeslips.

After you install the Sage Timeslips application, launching the application opens to the Welcome to Sage Timeslips dialog box.  You can then select a database to open and convert. Sage Timeslips will attempt to convert your database the first time you access it. Converting the database will make it unusable by earlier versions.

CAUTION:

Use caution when working with the below product functionality. Always create a backup of your data before proceeding with advanced solutions. If necessary, seek the assistance of a qualified Sage business partner, network administrator, or Sage customer support analyst.

 Prepare for data conversion

  • Back up your database before starting conversion.
  • Close email programs, word processors, and other running applications.
  • Don’t interrupt the conversion process once it starts.

    CAUTION:

Interruptions damage the database and require restoring a backup.

Launch and begin conversion

After installation, launch Sage Timeslips to open the Welcome to Sage Timeslips dialog box. Select the database to open and convert.  Sage Timeslips converts the database during first access. Conversion prevents use with earlier versions.

Database location rules

Multi-user installations

  • Convert databases on network shares only when you select convert for network use.
  • Copy the database to your local hard drive when converting for local use.

Single-user installations

  • Copy databases from network shares to your local hard drive before conversion.

Understand the conversion process

Data conversion uses two steps:

  • Step 1 copies the original BDE database and leaves it unchanged.
  • Step 2 converts the data to Firebird SQL for Sage Timeslips Premium.

Single license setup

Sage Timeslips places converted data in the same database folder. The system moves the original database to an Orig_BDE_DATA subfolder. The conversion wizard asks questions about updated data types.

Multi license setup

Sage Timeslips places converted data in the new database directory you selected during installation. The default directory is C:\ProgramData\Sage\Timeslips. The conversion wizard lets you rename the converted database and answer data format questions.
