Every network and all computers are set up differently, so there is no one specific way to set up MyAssistant. Contact your IT professional and your Sage consultant to make an informed decision. These are some setup options available. The one you will choose depends on what your IT professional sees best, depending on how your servers and network are set up. - Sage 300 CRE server, SQL Server and MyAssistant Server all on the same machine. This is good for a fast server scenario, or if you have a slow network.
- Sage 300 CRE server and MyAssistant Server on the same machine. SQL Server on a second machine. This is fine for a decent network since SQL is the only one on a separate server. MyAssistant server can access data locally so theoretically should be ok.
- Sage 300 CRE server and SQL Server on the same machine. MyAssistant Server (and Sage 300 CRE client) on a second machine. This is fine for a fast network, but requires data to be fetched across the network between the Sage 300 CRE server and the MyAssistant server to process tasks. If you have multiple tasks that take a few hours to run, this may increase the time it takes to run these tasks.
- Sage 300 CRE server on one machine. SQL Server and MyAssistant Server (and Sage 300 CRE client) on a second machine. Same issues as the previous scenario 3.
- Sage 300 CRE server on one machine. SQL Server on a second machine. MyAssistant Server (and Sage 300 CRE client) on a third machine. This is probably the slowest setup and should be avoided unless you can confirm the performance is comparable (or better) than the other scenarios.
How do you know what option will be best? Every network and all computers are different so no one can tell you what will be best without you actually testing out the different scenarios. The general rule of thumb is a fast server and slow network means having Sage 300 CRE server, MyAssistant Server and SQL Server on the same machine is better, and a slower server and fast network means having separate servers is better. Your IT professional will need to make that decision. Note: To alleviate slow performances, set MyAssistant tasks to run overnight if possible. However, be aware that MyAssistant ISD services (ISDAdminTaskService and ISDAdminSenderService) located on the MyAssistant Server read a unique process ID from Pervasive services. If you have backup programs that stop Pervasive services at night, you will need to set the backup program to restart Pervasive services, and then both ISD services, in that order.
