Resolution
For large systems:
Always test your system before and after installing antivirus software to determine whether there are any adverse performance effects on the computer that is running SQL Server and on SQL Server itself.
 

For all systems:

  • When you configure your antivirus software settings, make sure that you exclude the following files and processes from virus scanning, as applicable:
    Files with the following file name extensions:
    • .MDF
    • .LDF
    • .NDF
  • For processes, see this Microsoft site: sqlservr.exe (SQL Server Database Engine)
