Summary
The error, "Error loading current company file" occurs in Sage 50 Accounting when trying to launch the program or open a company.
Cause
- Invalid company is trying to open automatically
- Release or build isn’t the same on all computers in a network
- Service release is installed on some but not all computers
- Opening workstation before installing update
- Backup was restored on a computer that doesn’t have the same release or build as the computer that created the backup
Resolution
Update installed on Server but not workstation or company updated on a different computer
Install the latest program update on the workstation. See How to manually install updates.
Force open the splash screen
- Right-click the Sage 50 Accounting icon and select Properties.
- Highlight the Target line and then press the CTRL+C keys to copy.
- Close Properties window.
- Press the WINDOWS+R keys to open a Run line.
- Click the Run line and press the CTRL+V keys to paste the shortcut target.
- At the end of the line, add a space and then ABC.
- Example: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage\Sage 50\Peachw.exe" ABC
- Click OK.
- Sage will open to the splash screen.
- When Sage opens to the splash screen, first make sure you’re opening the correct company.
- To prevent the program from attempting to open the last used company, go to Options, and select Start with Last Opened Company to clear the checkmark by that option
- If the correct company was opened, but the error persists, go to Services, Check for Updates to download and install the latest product update.
- If the issue persists after installing the update, proceed to the next section.
Restoring Bad Backup
- Create another backup and restore
- Use a different backup
Damaged data files in company data folder
- Follow Create a clean data folder and expendable file cleanup.
- Verify you can open your company without error.
