Summary
Sage 50 Accounting keeps prompting to activate even though it activated already.
Cause
- Data path files not updated properly
- Two programs (that is, 2024 and 2023) using the same data path
- The update hasn’t been installed
Resolution
Run as Administrator
- Right-click the Sage 50—U.S. Edition icon.
- Select Run as Administrator.
- Activate online.
- Close the program.
- Open the program and confirm that it opens without prompting to activate.
Two programs (that is, 2024 and 2023) using the same data path
NOTE: If there’s only one version of Sage 50 installed on the machine storing the Sage 50 data, then proceed immediately to the next section.
- Close Sage 50.
- Open Windows File Explorer and browse to your data path. See How to find the data path and program path for help with finding the data path.
- Create a new folder, then name it Find Me.
- Browse to the other data path to locate the Find Me folder.
- If you see the Find Me folder, then see Using the Sage 50 Database Repair Utility to change the data path of one version.
- If you aren’t able to locate the find me folder continue to section 2.
Data path files not updated properly
- Close Sage 50.
- Open Windows File Explorer and browse to your data path. See How to find the data path and program path for help with finding the data path.
- Delete or rename the following files in the data path folder.
- OPTIONS.DAT
- OPTIONS.PTL
- SERIAL.DAT
- SERIAL.DAT.BAK
- SERIAL.PTL
- ENVSESS.DAT
- ENVSESS.PTL
- ENVUSER.DAT
- ENVUSER.PTL
- Entitlements.xml
- SoftwareInstallations.xml
- Clientinfo.xml
- Open Sage 50.
- Select OK on the message "Cannot open OPTIONS.DAT".
- If the activation prompt doesn’t appear automatically, go to Help, Sage 50 Activation, Licensing and Subscription Options.
- Register or activate the program.
- Select OK on the message saying “Thank you for registering".
- Close Sage 50.
- Reopen Sage 50.
- Verify it no longer prompts for registration/activation /update.
Applying most current update
The Status.dat file probably didn't update correctly. See Error: "Sage 50 update could not be completed and needs to be run again.".
Damaged datapath
Create a new datapath. See Using the Sage 50 Database Repair Utility.
