I have a backup file (.PTB) that will not restore

Cause

  • Damaged PTB file

Resolution

Section 1: Manually extract the .PTB file

  1. Right-click .PTB file, and then select Copy.
  2. Open the Sage data path and paste the backup file. Refer to How to find data path and program path.
  3. Right-click copied PTB file, and then select Rename.
  4. Change the extension from .PTB to .ZIP.
  5. Right-click the file and select Extract All.
  6. Click Extract.
  7. Open the newly restored company in Sage.

Section 2: Restore backup

If after following the steps in Section 1 your company is still unusable, you will need to restore a different backup file. Follow How to restore a backup.
