Summary
Prompted to install the latest tax update whenever closing Sage 50.
Displays Error: "Your payroll tax calculations may be out of date. A new tax update has been downloaded and should be applied before running payroll. Close Sage 50 to apply the tax update."
Constant prompt for update after the update has been installed.
Description
Cause
- Recent install of the latest release of Sage 50.
- Logged into Windows as a user with limited rights.
- UAC was enabled during tax update installation, and the update installed to the wrong location.
- Damaged content in the Updates directory.

Resolution
Section 1: Recent install of the latest release of Sage 50
- Run payroll tax update as admin.
Section 2: Recent install of the latest release of Sage 50
- Every release of Sage 50 has its own set of tax update files that pertain to that release
- Verify the version of the software and tax update that is installed for your current release; see How can I tell what tax update or Service release that I have installed?
- If the tax update is current, follow the steps in Section 3
- If the tax update is out of date, see How to install updates
Section 3: Windows user rights
- You may be logged into Windows with a user that has limited rights to update files and registry keys.
- Log into Windows as a user with administrative rights and install the Payroll Solutions update again. If the same problem occurs, proceed to Section 4.
Section 4: Damaged Tax Tables
- Close Sage 50.
- Browse to the data path; refer to How to find data path and program path.
- Remove Taxtable.dat and Taxinfo.dat files to new folder on the desktop.
- Run the tax update as Administrator from the Updates folder.
- Open Sage 50 and check for updates again.
- Verify the error no longer occurs when entering payroll.
Section 5: Damaged Updates folder content
- Close Sage 50.
- Browse to the data path; refer to How to find data path and program path.
- Rename the Updates directory to OldUpdates.
- Open Sage 50 and check for updates again by going to Services, Check for Updates.
- Close Sage 50 and click Yes when prompted to install updates.
- Verify the error no longer occurs when entering payroll.
