Error: "The administrator is currently maintaining the system"

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

Error: "The administrator is currently maintaining the system," occurs when the installation or migration is interrupted by other errors in Sage 100

Description

The INSTLOCK.TXT file is created automatically during installation to prevent access to the program.
Note: you may also get the "administrator is maintaining the system" if the migration renames the \MAS90\Home\Lib\Keys\Activate.pvx to MIGRATE-ACTIVATE.PVX and does not name this back when migration is completed.
ALSO: it is possible to get the "administrator is maintaining system" when launching Sage 100 after an upgrade when previously using Classic desktop view (Sage 100 2016-2019) and upgrading to Sage 100 2020 or later which only supports the newer Standard desktop view (the SAGE 100 folder under the Windows user's Documents folder has a bootstrap.json file with selection choice of "0" instead of "1" - rename the SAGE 100 folder under user's Documents folder).

Cause

Resolution

CAUTION: This solution needs advanced Operating System knowledge. Consult your system administrator for help. Sage isn't liable for issues caused by improper changes to the Windows Registry. Always back up your data before applying advanced solutions.
  • An installation in currently in progress or the INSTLOCK.TXT still exists in the ..\Mas90\Home directory after the installation was finished.
    a) Wait until the installation is finished before starting Sage 100 ERP Standard, Advanced or prior to migrating data files.
  • INSTLOCK.TXT may still exist in the "..\MAS90\Home" folder after the installation was finished.
  1. Verify that there is no installation in progress.
  2. Open Windows Explorer and go to "..\MAS90\Home"
  3. Search for INSTLOCK.TXT.
  4. Delete the file if it exists.

Note: Do not delete this file until verifying that no installation is in progress. If the file cannot be renamed and the installation process is no longer running, there may be a lock on the file by the operating system. Remove the shared lock from the computer management console or reboot the server and then follow the process described above.

  • Administrator.lck file exist under ...\MAS90\Locks\ folder
Note: If no installation is in progress AND nobody is currently logged in as the Administrator then an anti-virus program may be preventing the files in the ..\MAS90\LOCKS folder from being removed. Exclude .lck files from being scanned in the ..\MAS90\LOCKS folder then do the following:
  1. Go to the "..\MAS90\Locks\" folder on the server
  2. Locate and delete the following file: Administrator.lck
  • Administraor password is corrupt. Contact Sage Support for assistance with resetting Administrator Password
