Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

Troubleshooting steps for Sybase SQL anywhere or Unable to Create name resolver messages on the Single User edition.

Description

Cause

  • The program crashed, leaving the local Sybase Engine running in memory
  • The System database or Asset database transaction log files are corrupt
  • The System database is corrupt

Resolution

  1. Right-click the Task Bar, select Start Task Manager, check the Details tab for dbeng17.exe.
If present, the local Sybase Engine is still running on the workstation but is no longer accepting requests: End the Task on the dbeng17.
  2. If the dbeng17 is not present or the SQL loop persists after ending the task: Delete the Bestsys.log file
    1. Close the program, open Window Explorer, Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage Fixed Assets\Common Files
    2. Right click the Bestsys.LOG file and select Delete.
  3. If the SQL loop persists: Swap the Bestsys Database
Note: You will need to register the program again after swapping the Bestsys. See How to register Sage Fixed Assets - Single User products
    1. Open Window Explorer, Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage Fixed Assets\Common Files
    2. If present Right click the Bestsys.LOG file and select Delete.
    3. Right-click the Bestsys.db, select Rename and rename the Bestsys.db file to .OLD
    4. Right-click the Bestsys.sav, select Copy, then right-click the same directory, select Paste which will create a Copy of Bestsys.sav.
    5. Rename the Copy of Bestsys.sav to Bestsys.db and open the Sage Fixed Assets - Depreciation program
    6. Once the program is open: Go to: File, Database List Manager, click Find, click Search.
If the database is not found, then consult Local IT staff to determine the file location. Highlight the database when found, click Add, click Cancel to close the Find screen, close the Database List Manager, attempt to open the database under File, Open Company.
For issues adding or accessing the database see Cannot add database to the database list manager - Single User editions.

For version 2024.1 only:

  1. Download Sage.FAS.DataLayer.Sybase20241.zip
  2. Right click the downloaded zip file and select Properties.
  3. Put a check in the Unblock box and click Apply and OK.
    • Note: If the Unblock box is not there, move on to the next step.
  4. Extract the Sage.FAS.DataLayer.Sybase.dll from the downloaded zip.
  5. Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage Fixed Assets\Common Files, rename the existing Sage.FAS.DataLayer.Sybase.dll to .old and copy the extracted Sage.FAS.DataLayer.Sybase.dll to the same location.
