Steps to Bulk Edit the Estimated Life and Depreciation Method for multiple assets at the same time in Sage Fixed Assets Depreciation.

Resolution

 CAUTION: Create a backup before proceeding with this solution. The only way to undo bulk edit is to restore a backup. See How to back up a company for details. 

Notes:

  • Bulk Edit can only change Depreciation Method and Estimated life. For other fields, see How to change critical depreciation fields
  • You only have Bulk Edit available in Sage Fixed Assets Depreciation, Depreciation Network and Premier Depreciation products. It’s only for U.S. Companies
  • If you see Bulk Edit grayed out, it's disabled in password security. See How to set up Password Security
  • To limit assets impacted by Bulk Edit, you can create a group. See How to create a group

In Sage Fixed Assets, with the company open, go to Depreciation, Bulk Edit:

  1. Welcome: If you have a current backup of your data, check I have a current backup and click next.
  2. Groups and Books: Select the desired Group and Books and click Next.
  3. Fields to Edit: Check the fields you want to change. Make the desired value selections in the From and To dropdowns. Click Next.
  4. Effective Date: Select when you want the change to take effect.
    Note: Ensure you know and understand the effects of your selection.
    • Placed-in-Service Date: Clears all depreciation and beginning information from the asset. You must recalculate assets from their Placed-in-Service Date
      • Retain Begin Info: This checkbox clears all current depreciation information except for existing Beginning information on assets. For more information, see What is the Beginning Date?
    • Current Thru Date: All current depreciation information will move into the beginning fields
    • Only change assets with a Current Thru Date of: Limits changes to only assets with the selected date type
  5. Validation:
    1. Click Validate to pull the validation report.
      • Valid: The asset will change
      • Warning: The asset will change, but there may be additional effects or issues later, such as removal of 168 Allowance amounts
      • Error: The asset cannot change to the selected values
    2. Review the report and click Execute. The program will create a report showing changes made.
      Note: Re-run Depreciation before seeing changes on reports.
