Starting with Sage BusinessWorks 2025, you can schedule automatic backups of your Sage BusinessWorks data. Running a scheduled backup requires an active Sage BusinessWorks support plan.

The Sage BusinessWorks Task Scheduler streamlines the setup of automated backups within the Sage BusinessWorks environment. By using the built-in Windows Task Scheduler, users can configure backups to run on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis.

Set up a Scheduled Backup
Configuration guidance
- Location: Set up the backup on either a server or a standalone workstation.
- User Permissions: Log in to Windows as an administrator to create and run a scheduled backup.
- System Availability: Ensure the computer remains powered on during the scheduled backup times to allow the process to complete successfully.
- Access Limitation: You can manage scheduled backups only on the computer where you set them up.
- Close tasks at night: At the minimum, close all tasks before the scheduled backup. To ensure a successful backup, have all users exit Sage BusinessWorks during the scheduled database backup.
Setting up a scheduled backup
- Select File, Backup Scheduler.
- Click Browse... to choose your backup file location.
- Once you select the location, click Select Folder.
- Click Next>.
- Select your Companies to back up. We recommend scheduling the System backup at a different time than your company backup.
- Click Next>.
- Select the Frequency to back up. You can choose Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Yearly. We recommend backing up your company data daily.
- The default backup time of a company database is 11:59:59 PM.
- The default backup time of the system database is 11:50:59 PM.
- Click Finish.
Modify an Existing Scheduled Backup
Configuration guidance
- When editing a scheduled task, modify only the Triggers section.
- Adjusting other settings can lead to unexpected behavior or prevent the backup from running.
- If a scheduled backup fails after you make changes, delete the task and recreate it to restore functionality.
Modifying an existing scheduled backup
- Select File, Backup Scheduler.
- Click View/Modify Existing Tasks.
- Select the Task Name and click Task Editor.
- Click the Triggers tab.
- Select the Trigger and click Edit...
- Change the frequency or the time from this menu.
- Click OK until you get back to the Sage BusinessWorks Backup Scheduler.
- Click Finish.
Delete an Existing Scheduled Backup
There’s no undo option. Once you delete a task, you’ll need to recreate the task.
- Select File, Backup Scheduler.
- Click View/Modify Existing Tasks.
- Select the Task Name.
- Click Delete Scheduled Task.
