  2. Select the applicable overtime rate of 1.50, 2.00, or 3.00.
  3. Continue entering Shift 6 for qualifying overtime during the 2026 through 2028 tax years.

Note: Sage BusinessWorks doesn't provide an option to set Shift 6 as the default for overtime.

Display overtime on the paycheck stub

  1. Install a currently supported Sage BusinessWorks version.
  2. Select an updated check form or modify your existing check form.

Updated reports and check stubs display the 0.5 qualified overtime premium separately.

Review state-specific overtime requirements

Some states, including California, have overtime requirements that differ from Federal requirements.

  1. Review each paycheck to determine which overtime meets Federal requirements.
  2. Enter only federally qualified overtime using Shift = 6.
  3. For applicable states, use Shift 6 for hours exceeding 40 hours during the workweek.
