Installing on a Server / Workstation (Example) (SQL)
Description

A server/workstation configuration uses separate machines for:

  • The SQL Server (which hosts Estimating databases)
  • The Sage license server (from which you administer licenses)
  • One or more Sage Estimating workstations (where you use the Estimating programs to create estimates and do related processing)
Cause

Resolution

Locate the installation guide for your version of Sage Estimating here and go to Chapter 3, Installing and Configuring Sage Estimating. The sections referenced in the steps below correspond with sections in this chapter of the guide.

To install and configure Sage Estimating on a server/workstation setup, you perform the following general steps:

  1. At the SQL Server machine, install and configure the SQL Server Instance (DocLink: Install and Configure SQL Server (SQL)
  2. At the license server machine:
  1. At the workstation or server where you will host your Sage Estimating data:
    1. Install Sage Estimating (Install and / or Upgrade Sage Estimating (SQL)
    2. Connect to the Sage license server (Connect Workstations to Your License Server (Configuration Wizard) (SQL)
    3. Connect to SQL Server (Connect Workstations to your Data Server or SQL Server Instance (Configuration Wizard) (SQL)
    4. Install standard databases (How do I install a Standard Database (SQL)

Note: You only do this step once, on a single computer, because the data is hosted on the SQL Server instance and shared by all workstations.

  1. Set up roles and permissions (Setting up roles and permissions (SQL)
  1. At each Sage Estimating workstation:
    1. Copy the Estimating installation files to the local drive of the workstation
    2. Install Sage Estimating
    3. Open Sage Estimating to verify that the workstation can connect to the license server and SQL Server instance.
