How to create a new data path with the Database Repair Utility

Note: Do not use this utility if the existing data path is invalid or incorrect.

Option 1: Create new data path in same location

  1. Close Sage 50 on all computers.
  2. At the computer hosting the data, press the Windows Key + R.
  3. Enter services.msc, and then click OK.
  4. Right-click the following services and select Stop, if they are listed:
    • Peachtree SmartPosting ####
    • Sage 50 SmartPosting ####
    • Actian PSQL Workgroup Engine
  5. Browse to the data path on the computer. See How to find data path and program path.
  6. Rename the data path directory to OLDDATA.
  7. Open the Peachtree###.ini file. See Where is the INI file located?
  8. Change the path in the Datapath= line to reflect the renamed directory from Step 6.
  9. Download and install the Database Repair Utility for your version of Sage 50. See Using the Sage 50 Database Repair Utility.
  10. If prompted to Run or Save the downloaded utility, select Run.
  11. When the utility opens, click Yes when prompted to continue.
  12. Click Agree at the agreement prompt to proceed.
  13. Select the Create New Local Datapath button.
    IMPORTANT: If running the utility on the server for the company data in a multi-user environment, verify that Sage 50 is closed on all computers before proceeding.
  14. Click OK.
  15. In the New datapath field, enter the original data path noted earlier, from Step 5.
  16. Click OK.
  17. Verify the Database Repair Utility indicates the process completed successfully.
  18. Close the Database Repair Utility.
  19. Browse to OLDDATA folder.
  20. Copy the following directories and paste them in the new data path created by the utility:
    • Forms
    • Sample
    • Any of your company directories
    Note: If prompted to merge any directories, select Yes. If prompted to overwrite any files, select the Skip option and mark the check-box to Do this for the next ## conflicts.
  21. Restart the computer.
    Note: If restarting the computer is not possible, end the zenengnsvc32.exe process in the Task Manager and start the Actian service. See How to stop or start the Actian Zen service.
  22. Open Sage 50.
  23. If the program does not automatically start the activation process, select Help, Sage 50 Activation, Licensing and Subscription options and follow the steps to Activate the program.
  24. Go to the File menu and select Open Company.
  25. Verify your companies are present and open without error.

Option 2: Create new data path in a new location

Note: This option should be used primarily on a standalone machine; it may also be used on a network installation at the server, but is advisable only if the data path is not in a correct location or in the correct format for Sage 50 (at least two levels deep, in its own separate share). If the original data location is fine, please use Option I.

  1. Close Sage 50 on all computers.
  2. At the computer hosting the data, press the Windows Key + R.
  3. Enter services.msc and click OK.
  4. Right-click the following services and select Stop if they are listed:
    • Peachtree SmartPosting ####
    • Sage 50 SmartPosting ####
    • Actian PSQL Workgroup Engine
  5. Identify the location of the data path on the computer. See How to find data path and program path.
  6. Download and install the Database Repair Utility for your version of Sage 50. See Using the Sage 50 Database Repair Utility.
  7. If prompted to Run or Save the downloaded utility, select Run.
  8. When the utility opens, click Yes when prompted to continue.
  9. Click Agree at the agreement prompt to proceed.
  10. Select the Create New Local Datapath button.
    IMPORTANT: If running the utility on the server for the company data in a multi-user environment, verify that Sage 50 is closed on all computers before proceeding.
  11. Enter the desired New datapath and click OK.
  12. Verify the Database Repair Utility indicates the process completed successfully.
  13. Close the Database Repair Utility.
  14. Browse to the original data path folder identified in Step 5.
  15. Copy the following directories and paste them in the new data path created by the utility:
    • Forms
    • Sample
    • Any of your company directories
      Note: If prompted to merge any directories, select Yes. If prompted to overwrite any files, select the Skip option and mark the check-box to Do this for the next ## conflicts.
  16. Press the Windows Key + R.
  17. In the field, type Regedit and click OK.
  18. In the Registry Editor, on the left side of the screen, expand the folders to the following location:
    • 64-bit Windows - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\WOW6432Node\Peachtree\Version\ \Online Update\
    • 32-bit Windows - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Peachtree\Version\ \Online Update\
  19. On the right side of the window, double-click the following entries in the list and replace the Value Data with the path to the new Updates directory:
    • Path
    • UpdatePath
  20. Restart the computer.
    Note: If restarting the computer is not possible, end the w3dbsmgr.exe process in the task manager and start the Actian service. See How to stop or start the Actian Zen service.
  21. Open Sage 50.
  22. If the program does not automatically start the activation process, select Help, Sage 50 Activation, Licensing and Subscription options and follow the steps to Activate the program.
  23. Go to the File menu and select Open Company.
  24. Verify your companies are present and open without error.
