How do I use the Pervasive Software Monitor utility (PMU/PSMU) to unlock or close a file on a remote file server from a workstation?
Description
Cause
Resolution
Notes:

  • Rebooting the server will resolve the issue. However, instead of restarting your server to close the file, you can use PSMU to release it.
  • If you have Citrix or Terminal Servers that are separate from the file server, it is possible you may need to unlock Pervasive files on the Citrix/Terminal Servers in addition to the file server.
  • WARNING: Do not use the Pervasive Software Monitor utility to delete users or active sessions while users are using a Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate or Sage Estimating application. This can cause data corruption. Be sure to close, stop, or disable any other software applications you use that interface with Sage 300 CRE or Estimating, such as TimberScan, Paperless, Office Connector, Tech Tool, etc.

Versions 16.1 and newer:

  1. If you are on version 17.1 or newer and using SQL Replicator or Mobile Projects, you must stop Replicating before performing these steps. Refer to DocLink: How to stop Mobile Projects Replicator (SQL Replicator)
  2. Verify all users have exited all Sage 300 CRE and Sage Estimating applications.
  3. Go to the Windows Start button, Actian PSQL 12 folder, PSQL Monitor.
    • Alternative method:
      1. Go to Windows Run option
        • From your Windows taskbar, click Start and then Run

  5. Select the applicable server.
    • Note: If your server is not listed, click New Server Wizard and enter the applicable server name.
  6. Click on the MicroKernel Sessions tab to view the opened sessions from each user. The Session column will display the Windows profile/user that has the session opened.
    • Note: If you only want to view the active sessions or users, you can view from this window then skip to step 9.
  7. Re-verify that user or program has completely closed out of the software.
  8. Close open sessions:
    • To close sessions for individual users: Right click on the row and select Delete MDKE session.
    • To close all open sessions: Click Delete all sessions located in the top right-hand corner of screen. (Tip: If you hover over each icon it will tell you its function.) Click OK on the message "This operation will also delete SQL Connection Manager users. Are you sure you want to delete all sessions?"
  9. Exit the PSQL Monitor.
  10. If using SQL Replicator or Mobile Projects, start Replicating again.

Versions 15.1 and older:

  1. Verify all users have exited all Sage 300 CRE and Sage Estimating applications.
  2. At the server, log on as Administrator.
  3. From your Windows taskbar, click Start and Run. (Windows Server 2008, click Start and click the Start Search box).
