Enter Time is used to enter earnings information, e.g., the pays employees receive, the hours worked and what jobs, cost codes, and categories employees worked on. Enter Time is the fastest and simplest way to enter payroll earnings information. Time entry views make earnings entry easy since they make entry windows look similar to your actual time cards. For instructions on how to customize your time entry view, select the link below.

To record earnings, tax, deduction, and fringe information all at once, use Enter Checks instead of Enter Time. Enter Checks is also used to enter earnings information for checks that have already been written, i.e., manual checks.

  1. In Payroll, from the Tasks menu, select Enter Time.
  2. Enter a time entry view, Period begin date (optional), Period end date, and click OK.
    Note:If the period end date matches and existing check that is New, Altered, time will be added to the check. If the check is Processed time will update the check changing the status will change to Altered and the check will need to be processed again before printing.
  3. Enter one line of detail in the grid for each earnings distribution, and click Accept line for each line.
    Note:If you are consistently accepting a prefilled entry, use Customize Time Entry and modify the time entry view to no longer include this prefill column, or use Autoset. For instructions on how to customize your time entry view, select the link below.
  4. Repeat step 3 to continue enter time for the current employee or addition employees in this pay period. When done proceed to step 5.
  5. Click Finish.
  6. Make any necessary print selections and click Start.
  7. Review the journal.
