How do I set my print resolution at 600 dpi or lower?

Replace the PCL 6 driver with the PCL 5e driver and print at 600 dpi or lower as follows:

 

  1. Determine which printer driver you have.
    Method 1
    1. Click Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes.
    2. Right-click on your printer icon and select Properties.
    3. Look for a reference to your driver on the Advanced Tab. Follow the instructions in the table below. If your driver name contains only PCL or does not indicate the type of driver, go to Method 2.

     

    Method 2

    1. From the Sage Desktop (TS Main in versions before 15), select Common Tasks, Tools, System Verification.
    2. Accept the default, Diagnostic tests, and click Next, then Finish.
    3. Review the Printer section of the System Verification Report and follow the instructions in the table below:
      Printer driver description contains Instructions
      "Standard" or "PCL 5e" This stable driver has a maximum resolution of 600 dpi. You may disregard this software notice.
      "Enhanced" or "PCL 6" Proceed to step 2, "Replace the PCL 6 driver with the PCL 5e driver."
      "PS" or "PostScript" Proceed to step 3, "Set print resolution at 600dpi or lower."

      If these methods do not identify your driver, visit your printer manufacturer's Web site for further information. If a PCL 5e driver is unavailable, please proceed to step 3, "Set print resolution at 600dpi or lower."

     

     

     

     

  2. Replace the PCL 6 driver with the PCL 5e driver.
    1. Download the PCL 5e driver from your printer manufacturer's Web site. By downloading from the Web, you ensure that you receive the latest driver. If a PCL 5e driver is unavailable, please proceed to step 3, Set print resolution at 600 dpi or lower.
    2. Your downloaded file is probably a self-extracting executable (.EXE) or a Zip file (.ZIP). Run the executable or unzip the file and note the location of the resulting decompressed files.
    3. Click Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes.
    4. Double-click on the Add Printer icon.
    5. Follow the instructions in the Add Printer Wizard. In the first window that lists printers, click Have Disk and browse to the location of your decompressed driver files. Click OK.
    6. Continue to follow instructions in subsequent windows and print a test page when given the option.
    7. If the test page prints properly, launch TS Main and go to File, Print Setup. Select your new printer as the default and click OK.
    8. Your new driver has a maximum resolution of 600 dpi. You may skip step 3.

     

     

     

     

  3. Set print resolution at 600 dpi or lower.
    1. Click Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes.
    2. Right-click on your printer icon and select Printing Preferences.
    3. Find the tab that contains Print Quality settings.
    4. Select a print resolution of 600 dpi or lower.
    5. Click Apply and OK.
      Note: Printing at 600 dpi produces extremely high quality text that is virtually indistinguishable from higher resolution text.
