How do I install Sage Estimating (Pervasive version) on the server or the workstations?
Description

WARNING: Starting in Sage Estimating 13.1, Pervasive requires an Internet connection to successfully obtain a license.  To ensure proper components are installed to make this possible, if this is a file server hosting the data, you must install Sage Estimating.  Do not install only Pervasive as it will not be able to obtain a permanent license.  Note however, that if you have Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate (server or client) installed on the Estimating file server already, you do not need to install Sage Estimating on that computer since the accounting product will already have installed the Pervasive database engine.

  • Unlike Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate (Sage 300, formerly called Timberline Office), there are no server or client versions of Sage Estimating. You can run the same Install.exe on the server or the workstations, using the same install files.
  • There are no default shares you can run the Estimating install from.  However, you can share out the parent folder above the Estimating image and run the install for workstations this way.  If you run into strange problems though, copy the entire Estimating install image to the workstation and run the install from the local copy.

Sage Estimating applications (or modules) can use License Manager codes, or can use 6-digit activation codes, such as 123456.

  1. Log on to the workstation or server as an administrator.
  2. If downloading Sage Estimating from the official Sage site, it will attempt to launch the installation after the download completes.
  3. If the install does not automatically launch, or if you already have the Sage Estimating image downloaded somewhere, you can browse into the install folder and right-click on Install.exe (the purple icon), and select Run as Administrator (even if you are already logged on as and administrator) to start the install.
  4. If this is an upgrade or a reinstall, Estimating will automatically detect the registration name and applications that were previously selected.  If using License Manager, some activation codes of previously selected applications will not prefill.  If this is the case, simply type in the activation code of:  LM
    • Note: 6-digit activation codes such as 123456 will always prefill during an upgrade or reinstall.
  5. If this is a new install, you will need to do the following:
    • Type in the registration name Sage has assigned to your company.
    • Select the applications you own and wish to install (such as Estimating Extended, Model Estimating etc.).  These modules are the ones you purchased from Sage.  You or someone at your company would have received this information via email.  You can access this information (registration name + modules purchased, and their associated activation codes) online at http://support.na.sage.com/ after logging into your Sage account, or by contacting Sage support.
  6. When prompted, enter the appropriate activation codes you own.
    • Enter the 6-digit activation codes when prompted during the install.  Note that Database Editor and Estimating Report Manager will always use a 6-digit code and never the License Manager code.
    • If your activation codes look like really long alphanumeric characters, this means modules assigned these activation codes use License Manager.  When prompted during the install to enter activation codes for these modules, type:  LM
  7. Reboot when prompted.
  8. Log back into Windows as the same Windows username you just performed the install on.  Do not log back in as a different Windows username as this can cause problems.
  9. Configure how Estimating products will obtain licensing:
    • If this is a standalone install, plug in the protection device at this time.
    • If Estimating will use License  Manager, you may need to use the LSFORCEHOST environmental variable (see link below).   If setting up License Manager for the first time, you will need to install License Manager to a dedicated computer that will always be running, such as a server.  See link below.
  10. If other Estimating computers are on a specific update, or if Sage 300 CRE accounting will be installed with Estimating and has a specific update, apply the same update to this computer.
    • To check what specific version, revision and update you are on, launch TS Main (for Sage 300 CRE) or Estimating (for Sage Estimating) at a different working computer and click on Help, About.  It should give you the version, revision and update in parenthesis, such as (13.1 Rev 4, update 5). Consultant with your IT professional or call Sage support if you are unsure.

Note: Always run Install.exe (the one that shows up as a purple icon). It will automatically install all required prerequisites.  Do not run Setup.exe unless instructed to do so by a Sage support analyst.  The Setup.exe file may not install all required components.
