- Disable the antivirus and any security software you have on the workstation. Consultant with your IT professional if you are unsure how.
- If disabling your security software works, you can set an exclusion to the Sage program folders or data folders. See links below for more information of how to find what folders to exclude.
Note: For troubleshooting, simply right-clicking a security software icon in the system tray and selecting it to disable does not always shut it off. You must stop the services completely or use MSConfig to disable it. Even then, some security software have anti-tamper capabilities that keep them running even when doing so. Consultant with your IT professional if you are unsure. See link below for MSConfig usage. If you have Symantec Endpoint, you must use the SMC -stop command to truly stop Symantec. To do this: - Open Windows Services
- Click Start, Run (or Search Programs and files for newer operating systems)
- Type: services.msc
- Press the Enter key
- Locate all Symantec services and make a note of which ones are in a started or a stopped status.
- Either double-click on the Symantec Endpoint Protection service (which may be named differently on different versions) to identify the path where it is starting from, or search your local drives for SMC.EXE
- When found, use Windows Explorer to browse to the path (i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint). Copy this path from the Windows Explorer address bar. This path may differ, depending on the version of Windows and Symantec Endpoint you have.
- Open the Command Prompt window
- Click Start, Run (or Search Programs and files for newer operating systems)
- Type: cmd
- Press the Enter key
- In the command prompt, use the DOS change directory command by typing: cd
- Press the spacebar key to give one extra space after the "cd" part.
- Right-click in the Command Prompt window and select Paste. Do not do a Ctrl + V. This should paste the address path you've copied, and in our example, should look like the following: cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint
- Press Enter. This should take you to the directory or folder where the SMC file exists.
- Type: smc -stop
- Press Enter. This should stop Symantec Endpoint. Your cursor will be moved down to the next line once the Symantec Endpoint service stops successfully.
- Open Windows Services.
- Locate all Symantec services and stop them all by right-clicking each one that shows a status of "started" and selecting Stop.
- After you have completed any troubleshooting steps, browse into the Command Prompt into the same folder and use smc -start to restart Symantec Endpoint.
- Open Windows Services and restart all previously started Symantec services from step 2.
