Important Considerations Before You Install

  • Installation Instructions - Not all steps during the installation are outlined in this document in detail. If there are questions concerning the installation, we recommend that you refer to the appropriate Install Guide. The network installation guides are found below in Related Resources below:
  • Operating System Considerations - Make sure that the operating system you have chosen for your Sage Timeslips server will support the number of networked users in your installation. Sage Timeslips recommends using a dedicated server platform for a Sage Timeslips multi-user installation, however, using Sage Timeslips in a peer-to-peer networking configuration may be your preference.
  • Licensing - Sage Timeslips uses a per-seat licensing system. When Sage Timeslips is opened on a machine, a license is permanently assigned to that machine. The license will not be released after Sage Timeslips is closed on the machine. Machines that have Sage Timeslips installed but never open the program, will not take a license. Examples are a dedicated server or workstation using an API license for a third party application.

Make a backup of your Sage Timeslips Data and keep it in safe place before performing the tasks below. You may need to restore this backup in the future to view specific information that may have been changed by preparation for the conversion.

  • Data Preparation - The issues listed below may affect when you choose to upgrade your Sage Timeslips. Evaluate this list to help you determine when it is best for your company to upgrade.
    • Run Data Verification - Data verification is run in current version by selecting File, Data Verification and only choose Look for Errors. Data verification will identify errors, and we advise to contact Sage Customer Support chat by clicking here to assist in correcting the errors before continuing.
    • Bills and Statements - During the conversion, A/R payments are normally automatically applied. To reduce possible discrepancies in your aging totals after conversion, Sage Timeslips recommends converting after generating and approving bills and statements.
    • Exchange with remote databases - Slips from remote databases should be exchanged before converting to your new version. NOTE: Sage Timeslips Remote is only applicable to Sage Timeslips 2011 and prior.
    • Exchange with any 3rd party applications - Make sure that your linked 3rd party applications are compatible with your new version of Sage Timeslips. Exchange any data with Sage Timeslips before your conversion. For example Timeslips eCenter, Amicus, Abacus, TimeMatters, etc.
    • Bill Stages - Approve or clear bills from Proof or Revision for all clients.
    • Finalize G/L Transfer Register - If you have TAL (Sage Timeslips Accounting Link), print and finalize the G/L Transfer Register.

  • Installation Folder and Application Folder
    • The Sage Timeslips Installation Folder is a folder on a shared resource that contains a Timeslip.cfg that all networked Sage Timeslips workstations share and a copy of the Sage Timeslips programs. The installation folder should be a folder under a mapped network drive or network path. For example, the Installation folder should be T:\Sage Timeslips, T:\APPS\Sage Timeslips, \\Server_name\Sage Timeslips, \\Server_name\APPS\Sage Timeslips instead of installing directly to T:\ or \\Server_name
    • The Sage Timeslips Application Folder is a folder installed on the local workstation where your programs are stored. Typical installations would be to C:\Program Files\Sage Timeslips\ or C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage Timeslips\
