Installing Sage Timeslips on Windows Server
Description

Install Sage Timeslips on a Microsoft Windows server such as Windows Server 2016, 2019, or 2022?

Cause
Windows Server is meant to run as a dedicated server, so we usually don’t recommend running Sage Timeslips directly on it. Still, some environments work better with this setup. If you choose to run Sage Timeslips on the server, it will take up and hold one of your Sage Timeslips licenses.
Resolution

CAUTION:

We suggest using these instructions as a general guide for setting up Sage Timeslips in a multi-user, client-server environment.  Keep in mind that following these steps can affect how Sage Timeslips and your network work.  The network administrator or whoever makes the change will be responsible for any issues that come up.

Create a network share for Sage Timeslips

  1. On the Sage Timeslips server, select Start then select Computer.
  2. Open the target drive. Use a non-system drive like D:\
  3. Select File, New, Folder, then name it TSSHARE.
  4. Right-click TSSHARE, select Properties, then select the Sharing tab.
  5. Select Share, choose users or Everyone, then continue.
  6. Grant Read and Write permissions to required users.
  7. Select OK to save permissions and close properties.

NOTE:

Network administrators control user scope and permission levels.

Permission behavior overview

  • Read permissions allow viewing, opening, and running files.
  • Write/Change permissions allow editing, renaming, and saving files.

Verify firewall and server details

  • Open port 3050 on the application or database server firewall only.
  • Firebird Database Engine uses port 3050 for network communication.

Install Sage Timeslips on the server

  • Install Sage Timeslips directly on the server via console or remote desktop.
  • Install under the shared folder created in the Create a network share for Sage Timeslips section above.
  • Don’t use C:\Program Files (x86)\Timeslips on servers.
  • Confirm the server resides on the same network as all workstations.
  • Ensure port 3050 remains open on the server firewall.
  • Maintain an active internet connection for Premium activation.

CAUTION:

Don’t start the server install from a mapped drive or remote workstation.
