Preparing to install Sage Timeslips Check that your servers, workstations, and network meet the system requirements before installation. Verifying access rights - Log in to Windows with administrator rights to install Sage Timeslips.
- Give all network users change permissions to the installation folder, including Read, Write, Execute, and Delete.
Using mapped drives - You don't need mapped drives for new installations.
- If you’re upgrading an installation with mapped drives, you can keep the drives mapped.
Preparing to upgrade Sage Timeslips If you’re upgrading from a previous version, convert your existing database before using it in the new version. Follow the steps in the conversion guide. Verifying database integrity - Go to the File, Backup menu to create a backup.
- Run File, Data Verification, select Look for errors, then run verification.
Purging data for Timeslips 2006 or earlier - Older versions can’t convert databases with more than 300,000 records.
- Use the File, Purge menu to remove older records.
- Send deleted slips to an archive file so you can view them later.
- Timeslips 2018 and later don’t require record limits.
Time required for data conversion - Large databases take longer to convert.
- Data size, workstation performance, and stored content affect the conversion time.
NOTE: Don’t stop the conversion if it looks unresponsive. If you encounter errors, contact support. Installing Sage Timeslips Network installation Follow the network installation instructions. You can perform local installations in a networked environment, which improves performance. Local Installation. Run the local installation on each workstation using Timeslips. This copies program files locally, improving performance. Starting the local installation - Select Start, Run, then choose Browse.
- Go to the Loclinst folder on the server and select Setup.exe.
- Type \\ServerName if the server doesn’t appear. Replace ServerName with your actual server name.
- Enter Windows credentials if prompted.
Installing on a multi‑boot computer Install Timeslips on each Windows instance to update the registry settings for each environment. Converting your database Network‑type databases convert across the network. Local‑type databases convert only when stored on the same computer running the conversion. - Copy a Local‑type database to the workstation if prompted.
- Convert data on the same machine that stores the database when possible.
- Close all other applications before converting to free memory.
Running Sage Timeslips in Remote Desktop Services - You can run Sage Timeslips through Remote Desktop Services.
- Each connection uses one network station license.
- Manage licenses in the Licenses in Use section of Timeslips Administrator.
- Run terminal services in Application Server Mode for better performance.
Diagnosing issues with Timeslips Administrator - Use Diagnose This Computer to fix setup or workstation issues.
- Use Data Verification with Look for and Repair Errors if you suspect database corruption.
Tax considerations for U.K. customers If your database uses incorrect U.K. tax information, delete the existing profiles after upgrading. Deleting tax profiles - Go to Setup, Taxes.
- Select a profile, then choose Delete.
- Confirm deletion.
Repeat these steps for each profile. Importing the U.K. tax file - Go to Setup, Taxes.
- Select Import.
- Open the TxVAT.txt from the application folder.
- Select Done to finish.
