How do I update File Locations after moving to a new server?
Description
Cause
  • Sage 300 CRE was moved to a new server
  • Data was moved to a new location
Resolution
[BCB:1:Backup warning:ECB]
[BCB:5:Third-party support:ECB]

If you've moved Sage 300 CRE to a new server or make changes to your data location that may have caused the paths for File Locations to change, please follow the steps below to update each location:

WARNING: Once File Locations are set and used in production (with or without a location specified in the Data Folder field), do not change these settings without working with a Sage 300 CRE Consultant as it could result in loss of data.

If users have already posted entries or made updates in the software after moving to the new server but before the File Locations were updated, the activity will have to be reversed first or all data folders will have to be restored from backup before changing the File Locations.

  1. Please make sure that you have a backup of your company data folders first before proceeding. Refer to article 54610 DocLink: How do I backup Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate files without using file tools?
  2. Open Sage Desktop
    • Version 15.1 and older: Tasks, Common Tasks, File, Company Settings, File Locations.
    • Version 16.1 and newer: Applications, Common Tasks, File, Company Settings, File Locations.
  3. Scroll down the list to see if there are any File Types with a Data Folder path. If they are blank, you do not need to update anything. If there is a path, please continue with the next steps.
  4. Make a note of each path and locate where the location is now at the new server. If it was not copied over, copy the location from the old server to the new server and update the path to the new location.
  5. Click OK to save the changes.
  6. Repeat these steps for each data folder.

Notes:

  • Updating File Locations will need to be done per data folder.
  • If the server is a test server, make sure the File Locations are not pointing to the production server where live data will be impacted.
