Note: This is not a permanent or proper way to fix DNS settings on your network. Please contact a Network Administrator to correct the LAN DNS settings.

  1. Select Start, and type Notepad.
  2. Right-click Notepad, and then select Run as administrator.
  3. Browse to the Windows hosts file.
  4. Create a new line on the first available blank line and enter the server's IP address. Refer to How can I find the Internet Protocol (IP) address of my computer?. Then enter the server name. Refer to How can I find the name of my computer? to determine the server name.
    Example: 192.168.1.1 Server
  5. Select File, and then click Save.

Note: Steps may need to be repeated on any additional computers and may need to be added to the server if you cannot get a connection to the workstations.
