The Federal Tax ID must be an exact match to the one used previously or you'll get an error.

• "The encryption key has changed since you last processed tax forms.  Please contact your Payroll/Accounting software support for assistance"
• "FEIN Incorrect. There’s a conflict between the Federal ID No. entered in the form selection window and the Federal ID No. passed in the data file. Please contact your Accounting support for further assistance”
• The FEIN displays only question marks (?), and you can't change it
• Company setup wizard won’t populate the company ID
• "Error Opening Company.asd"

If you have processed 1099s before, and haven't changed your Federal Tax ID

• Start the 1099 process over again and reenter your Federal Tax ID 
• If you entered the Federal Tax ID without a dash, enter it with a dash and process again
• If you entered the Federal Tax ID with a space, remove it or use a dash instead
• If the error persists, follow the steps in the next section 'If you changed your Federal Tax ID'

If you changed your Federal Tax ID 

 NOTE: Follow all three steps below to make a new company, create new Aatrix files, and keep your old company to process historical tax forms.

Make a copy of your existing company

1. Create a copy of the company receiving the error to use as the new company.
   For example,
   • if the existing company is 'ABC', name the new company 'ABCNEW'
   • then check the box to Copy user security
     
     

Remove the existing Aatrix folders 

1. Browse to File, Select Company and select your new company (ABCNEW) with the new Federal Tax ID.
2. Go to Help, About and make a note of your data path.
3. Browse to this location and open your new company ID data folder (ABCNEW).
4. Delete the Archive, Drafts, and Histories folders as well as the company.asd and company.ini files from the directory.
   
5. Work forward in this company (ABCNEW) to process your payroll reports with the new Federal Tax ID.

Rename your original Company ID

 NOTE: This lets you reprint historical payroll tax forms processed with your old Federal Tax ID.

1. Log in to your new company (ABCNEW).
2. Go to Utilities, Maintain Companies, select your original company, and click the rename button .
3. Rename your original company to OLDEIN.
   
4. Go to File, Select Company, and select OLDEIN.
5. Go to PR, Utilities, Maintain Payroll Parameters and change the Federal Tax ID back to your original number.
