  • Damaged company folder during restore
  • Actian is stuck/damaged
  • Trying to open a company that is on an external media device

Resolution

Opening a company on an external media device

If you’re opening the company on an external drive, you’ll need to move the company to an internal hard drive and then try to open it once more.

Close out of Company Information

  • The error can occur when trying to open the company on one workstation when another workstation has the Company Information window open.
  • Close the Company Information window on the other workstation, and then try again.

Restart the Actian service on the server or the machine that’s giving the message

  1. Make sure everyone is out of Sage 50.
  2. On the server, select Windows + R.
  3. Type services.msc and press Enter.
  4. Find the Zenengine service.
  5. Stop the service.
  6. When it has stopped, Start the service.
  7. Check to see if you can now get into the company.

Reboot all computers including the server

  1. If this is a network environment, make sure all users are logged out of Sage 50.
  2. Reboot all workstations and the server.
  3. Have one user log in to the company; then have the other users log in.

Clean out the company folder

See Create a clean data folder and expendable file cleanup.

Insufficient disk space

Insufficient disk space on your hard drive can cause this error. Make sure that you have enough free space on your C drive (at least 2GB).

Uninstall and reinstall Actian

See How to completely remove and reinstall Actian (formerly Pervasive).

Repair Sage 50

  1. Remove all files and folders except their individual company data folder (Note: you can create a folder on the desktop or in the Peachtree folder to hold these files and folders).
  2. Run Repair on the program. See How to run Repair.
  3. Verify that you receive no errors during repair. If you receive a Windows Firewall message, you may need to ensure that Pervasive and Sage 50 are set to allow through the firewall.

Restore a backup

  1. Restore a backup of the company into a new company, referring to How to restore a backup.
  2. Verify that you can now open the company.

Create a new Windows user profile

The existing Windows user profile may be damaged. Create a new Windows user profile. Consult Microsoft documentation or your local IT group for assistance if needed.
