Summary
Sage 50 Accounting opens, but the company won’t load to the main dashboard.
Cause
- Issues with Actian
- Antivirus is performing a scan
- Program files were transferred to the computer using the file transfer from an old computer
- The program is trying to open the last used company
- The program needs to run as an administrator
- The program running in compatibility mode for another Operating System
Resolution
Windows reboot/restart
- Reboot the computer experiencing the issue.
- If this is a network environment. Have all users close out of Sage 50, and reboot the server first and then all the workstations
- If the issue is still present, follow the steps below.
Actian is stopped or needs to be restarted
- Click Start, Run, enter services.msc, and then click OK.
- Select Actian Zen Workgroup Engine.
- If the status column reads Started, right-click Actian Zen Workgroup Engine, and then click Restart. If the status column is blank, right click Actian Zen Workgroup, and then click Start.
- Verify Sage 50 now opens.
The program is running in compatibility mode for another Operating System
- Close Sage 50.
- Right-click on the Sage 50 icon, and click Properties.
- Click the Compatibility tab, and remove the check to the left of Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Verify the program and the company is responsive.
Antivirus is performing a scan
- Wait for the scan to finish or stop the scan and then see if the program functions normally
- If it does function normally, add exceptions to your firewall and antivirus. See How do I modify my firewall or Internet Security?
The program needs to be run in an elevated status
- Set the Sage 50 icon to run as administrator. See How can I make the program run as administrator by default?
Damaged registry key

Repair the Sage 50 installation
- Run Repair on Sage 50. See How to repair the Sage 50 installation.
- Check for and install any product updates. See How to check for updates.
- Verify Sage 50 opens without issue.
Uninstall and reinstall Sage 50
- Click the Windows Start button. In the Search, type APPWIZ.CPL and press Enter.
- Right-click Sage 50 Accounting 20xx and select Uninstall. Proceed through the uninstallation.
- Reinstall the program, referring to Installation Instructions - Sage 50—U.S. Edition.
- Check for and install any product updates. See How to check for updates.
- Verify Sage 50 opens without issue.
