Obsolescence message in version 2024

Summary

There’s an Obsolescence Information message in the 2024 version of Sage 50 Accounting.

Description

Verify that you are on a currently supported release of Sage 50 Accounting. See Supported products and services.

Cause

  • The OBSRET.DAT file didn't update properly
  • The most current version of the program isn’t installed
  • HTML links didn’t update properly
  • The program isn’t activated

Resolution

Obsolescence message in release 2024

Install the latest version

Release 2026 is available. 

  1. Obtain your serial number, which is available in your Sage Customer Portal account.
  2. Download the latest version of the program, which is available at Sage 50—U.S. Edition: Download Portal. You can also download it in-program by going to Services and Check for Updates.
  3. Install the latest version. See Installation instructions - Sage 50—U.S. Edition. 

If you're not ready to upgrade to 2026, you can follow the steps below to replace the outdated OBSRET.DAT file in version 2024.

Replace the OBSRET.DAT file in the data path

  1. Go to the Sage 50 data path directory. See How to find the data path and program path.
  2. Locate the OBSRET.DAT file.
  3. Rename the OBSRET.DAT file to OLDOBSRET.DAT.
  4. Unzip the attached 2024 OBSRET.zip file and copy the extracted OBSRET.DAT into the Sage 50 data path directory.
  5. Verify that the obsolescence message no longer appears. If the problem still occurs, contact Sage support.
