Summary
Moving Timeslips to another server or computer
Description
This article describes a method to move Timeslips from one server to another, and is also applicable to moving the program for a stand-alone single license installation
Cause
Resolution
- For all versions of Timeslips:
Section I: Install the application to the new machine/server
- In the existing installation, on a client or server, open Timeslips
- Select Help, About Sage Timeslips Premium and click the Support Info... button. Record the Installation Code, Account ID and Serial Number from the resulting page. Note that this report can be exported to a text file and preserved for future use and/or printed
- Install Sage Timeslips using the installation file on the new server utilizing the above recorded information. Be sure to install any Timeslips Service Releases for that version to bring the installation up to date.
- Obtain the installation files from this link: Sage Timeslips: Download Portal
- Run Timeslips Administrator on the new machine/server and verify all areas are operational.
- Rename Timeslip.CFG and Timeslips Firebird Server folder on the old machine/server to break the connection from the existing clients/workstations to the old server.
Section II: Move the database to the new server or standalone computer (single license)- Backup the database from the old server and restore that backup onto the new machine/server. See: How do I back up my Sage Timeslips Database? and How to restore a Premium and 2017+ database'
- Alternatively, copy database file from the old machine/server to the new machine/server. See How to move data in Timeslips Premium and 2017+
Section III: For Network Installations Only (multiple licenses)
- It is recommended to run a local install on each workstation. See: 'How to perform a local installation of Sage Timeslips'
- Alternatively, the workstations can be pointed to the new server. See: 'Point workstation to new server'
For Timeslips 2016 (Borland versions) and older
Section I: Move the application to the new machine- Copy the current Timeslips installation folder from the old server and paste it into a folder on the new server that is properly shared for the client installations to access
- Rename the TIMESLIP.CFG on the old server to oldTIMESLIP.CFG to break the connection between the clients and the old server
- Open Station Administrator on any machine, locate the TIMESLIP.CFG on the new server and Clear All licenses. See: ERROR: "There are not enough licenses to allow use of the program at this time"'
- All clients will search for the TIMESLIP.CFG and need to be directed to the new server install to reconnect
Section II: Move the database to the new machine/server
- Using the database backup made in Section I above, restore that backup onto the new machine/server. See: 'How do I back up my Sage Timeslips Database?' and 'How to restore a backup'
