Summary

How do I move my Sage 50 Accounting data from one computer to another?

Resolution

NOTE: If you’re replacing your server, see I am replacing my computer. What do I need to do?

New computer

  1. Make a backup of each company.

NOTE: If the number of companies makes it time prohibitive to back up each company individually, manually transfer the data.

  1. Move the backups to a shared folder or removable disk (such as a USB drive or CD).
  2. Install Sage 50 on the new computer.
  3. On the new computer, open Sage 50.
  4. Access the backups on the new computer using the shared folder or removable disk.
  5. Restore each backup and choose the option to Create a new company using the restored data.

NOTE: If you have any custom forms, select the option to restore custom forms along with data.

Moving from server to workstation

  1. Close all instances of the software running.
  2. On the workstation you wish to make the new host, create a new local data path.
  3. Move companies to the new data path.

Upgrading Windows

  1. Before installing the new version of Windows, open Sage 50.
  2. Make a backup of each company.
  3. Move the backup files onto removable media (USB drive, external hard drive, CD/DVD).
  4. After installing the Windows upgrade, reinstall Sage 50.
  5. Open Sage 50.
  6. Restore each backup, choosing the option to Create a new company using the restored data.

NOTE: If you have any custom forms, select the option to restore custom forms along with data.
