| I am replacing my computer. What do I need to do? |
Resolution | Section 1: A server OR standalone computer
Step 1: Install Sage 50—U.S. Edition on the new/rebuilt server or standalone computer - Either download the install source via Sage 50—U.S. Edition: Download Portal or copy the installation folder from the old computer to the new computer.
- Especially important when replacing a server computer, install Sage 50 using the same data directory structure as the old computer.
- For example, if the data on the old server is located at C:\Sage\Peachtree\Company, choose C:\Sage\Peachtree\Company as the data directory on the new computer.
- Note: To verify the data location on the original server, refer to How to find the data path and program path.
- During the install you’ll be asked to share a folder. Note: If installing as a standalone, skip to the next step.
- After the program completes installation, open Sage and allow the program to activate.
- Select Services, Check for Updates to be sure the latest updates are installed. If updates are found, download them and allow them to install when you close the program.
Step 2: Move the data - Move your data to the new/rebuilt server or standalone computer by either moving the individual company folders into the new datapath or restoring from a backup.
- If you are restoring a backup and you have custom forms, make sure you select the option to restore custom forms. For instruction on doing so, refer to How to restore custom forms.
- If you’re moving the individual company folders, make sure you copy the Forms folder also.
- If you are copying over the Peachtree data folder, you’ll need to edit the gwpreference.txt file in the root of the Company folder with Notepad and replace the old name of the server with the new name.
Section 2: A workstation Step 1: Remap the workstations Note: Starting with release 2021.0, it’s possible to use UNC paths as well as mapped drives, so mapping a drive isn’t necessary. - At the workstation, disconnect the mapped drive that Sage 50 uses to connect to the old server.
- Remap the drive to the shared folder on the new server.
Note: It’s important to use the same drive letter if possible. - Verify that you can see and open your company.
- Repeat these steps for each workstation.
Step 2: Remove entries from the list of recently opened companies Note: This step is optional, if you would like to make sure there are no other remnants of the data being accessed from the old machine.
