Summary

How to refund a cash receipt or overpayment to an Accounts Receivable customer in Sage 300 CRE.

Resolution

You can't issue a payment from Accounts Receivable. Enter a "refund" in Accounts Receivable to balance the customer account. Then issue a check from Accounts Payable or track a credit card payment in Cash Management.

Create Accounts Receivable refund

  1. From the Accounts Receivable Tasks menu, select Adjust Receivables.
  2. Select the Customer and enter the accounting date for the refund. If an invoice has the cash receipt applied, un-apply the cash receipt.
  3. Select the customer cash receipt and click Adjust.
  4. In the Adjustment type box, select Refund.
  5. Enter the refund Amount.
  6. Edit the Description or Reference as needed and click OK.
  7. Click Finish to post the entries.

Create a payment

Print a check

  1. Enter an invoice in Accounts Payable, using the AR Refund account as the Expense account on the invoice.

    NOTE:

If the customer doesn't exist as a vendor, you can add them as a ONETIME vendor.

  2. Print a quick check in Accounts Payable to send to your customer.

Credit Card refund

  1. Enter a Subtraction adjustment entry in Cash Management Edit Register to record the refund to the credit card.
  2. Use the Accounts Receivable refund account as the debit account for the transaction.
