How to refund a cash receipt or overpayment to an Accounts Receivable customer in Sage 300 CRE.
You can't issue a payment from Accounts Receivable. Enter a "refund" in Accounts Receivable to balance the customer account. Then issue a check from Accounts Payable or track a credit card payment in Cash Management.
Create Accounts Receivable refund
- From the Accounts Receivable Tasks menu, select Adjust Receivables.
- Select the Customer and enter the accounting date for the refund. If an invoice has the cash receipt applied, un-apply the cash receipt.
- Select the customer cash receipt and click Adjust.
- In the Adjustment type box, select Refund.
- Enter the refund Amount.
- Edit the Description or Reference as needed and click OK.
- Click Finish to post the entries.
Create a payment
Print a check
- Enter an invoice in Accounts Payable, using the AR Refund account as the Expense account on the invoice.
NOTE:
If the customer doesn't exist as a vendor, you can add them as a ONETIME vendor.
- Print a quick check in Accounts Payable to send to your customer.
Credit Card refund
- Enter a Subtraction adjustment entry in Cash Management Edit Register to record the refund to the credit card.
- Use the Accounts Receivable refund account as the debit account for the transaction.
