How to install a client

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

Steps to update the client workstation.

Cause

If the server and client are not on the same version, the program will have difficulty connecting. The following issues require an update to the client:

  • Premier: Error: "" with no configuration prior to the error, “Login Failed for user 'winfas'”, or a prompt to log in with the SA login
  • Network: Error "The database selected is an asset database. Please locate the system database"
  • All Products and versions: Error: "Incompatible conversion components". This message can also indicate multiple products with different version levels on the same machine
  • All Products and versions: Error: "The current database could not be opened because it is designed for a newer version"

Resolution

Note: The installation requires Local Administrator rights

Note: If skipping versions, uninstall all old versions of the Sage Fixed Assets client first.
Example: The client system has 2023.0 or prior installed and you are attempting to install the 2024.1 client. You must uninstall the 2023.0 or prior client from Programs and Features before the installation of the 2024.1 client will complete, otherwise, you will get an error message saying you need to install the 2023.1 version.

From the Workstation, in Windows Explorer:

  1. Browse to the FASServ or SFAServ directory on the server where the Sage Fixed Assets Server Components were installed.
Note: You can use the full UNC path or a mapped network drive to the directory on the server.
Note: Run the Setup.exe from the remote server. Copying the client installation setup file to the workstation is not a supported process and can cause many configuration issues.
  2. Open the Network Client folder for Network or Premier Client folder for Premier, right click on the Setup.exe and select Run as administrator.
Note: The setup.exe installs all Sage Fixed Assets products (Depreciation, Tracking, and Planning) onto the workstation.
  3. Follow the windows installer wizard prompts to complete the client installation.

Troubleshooting:

For any errors during installation, log in as a Local Administrator for the machine and attempt the installation again.

If the setup gives an error for the Premier client mentioning the Database Utilities, see Error: "The Sage Fixed Assets - Premier installation cannot be completed until the Premier Depreciation & Tracking and Premier Planning Database Utilities have been launched at least once. Please contact your system administrator."

If the Sage Fixed Assets Premier - InstallShield Wizard appears, see Error: “Before creating user databases, the system database must be created and properly registered with the system.”
