Section 1: Set Windows to prefer IPv4 addresses over IPv6
Section 2: Damaged COSESS.DAT and/or ADVDATA.DAT files
- Stop Actian on the server, referring to How to stop or start the Actian Zen database engine.
- Browse to your individual company data folder, referring to How to locate company directories.
- Delete COSESS.DAT and ADVDATA.DAT files.
- Start Actian on the server.
- Open Sage 50. If the issue is not resolved, proceed to the next section.
Section 3: Other damaged files
Create a new data directory and copy over the essential files, referring to Create a clean data folder and expendable file cleanup.
Section 4: Do a complete removal and clean reinstall
- Completely uninstall Sage 50. Refer to How to manually remove the program.
- Reinstall the program. See Installation Instructions - Sage 50—U.S. Edition.
- Open Sage 50. If the issue is not resolved, proceed to the next section.
Section 5: Too many processes are running and are taking up computer resources
- Restart your computer in Selective startup, referring to How to boot into selective startup?.
- Open Sage 50. If the issue is not resolved, proceed to the next section.
Section 6: Bing Toolbar is installed and running
- Uninstall Bing Toolbar in the Control Panel, in Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features.
- Open Sage 50. If the issue is not resolved, proceed to the next section.
Section 7: Conflict with antivirus software or firewall
- Verify all exceptions have already been set according to Files to allow through firewall and antivirus.
- Verify you have the installation files for the security program.
- Uninstall the antivirus or Internet security program.
- Reinstall and reconfigure your antivirus and firewall exceptions.
Section 8: Disable UAC
- Select Start, Control Panel, and then select User Accounts.
- Select Change User Account Control Settings.
- Move bar down to Never Notify.
- Click OK.
- Reboot the computer.
Section 9: Damaged or incorrectly set Domain Name Service (DNS)
Ensure the DNS is set correctly. For assistance with your DNS, contact your Network Administrator or IT Professional.
Section 10: Remove the ::1 from the hosts file if present
- Select Start Menu, All Programs, and then select Accessories.
- Right-click Notepad, and then select Run as administrator.
- Select File, and then select Open.
- Change the file type Text Documents to All Files.
- Browse to C:Windows\System32\drivers\etc, and then select hosts file.
- If you find a line that has ::1 Localhost, delete the line.
- Select File, and then click Save.
- Close the file.
Section 11: Modify the hosts file
Note: If you modify the hosts file, it is also recommended that you configure the server so that it has a static IP address.
- To do this go to the computer that stores the data (server).
- Press the Windows+R keys, and then enter CMD in the Open box.
- Enter ipconfig /all, and then press Enter.
- Make note of the computer name and the IPv4 address.
- On the workstations, press the Windows+R keys, type C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc in the Open box, and then click OK.
- Double-click hosts file, and open with Notepad.
- On the first blank line at the end of the file, enter the IPv4 address of the server, enter five spaces, and then type the Full Computer Name exactly as you noted in step 4.
- Select File, and then click Save.
- Close Notepad.
Section 12: Permissions on Temp folder
- Open Sage 50.
- Press Windows+R keys, and then type %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp.
- Click OK.
- Select View, and then select Details.
- Select View, and then select the Hidden items box.
- In the Temp directory, locate the folder that begins with the following characters:
- PS30 for R2023
- PS29 for R2022
- Right-click folder, and then select Properties.
- Click Security tab.
- Click Edit.
- Click Add.
- Type Users, and then click OK.
- Under Permissions for Users, select box labeled Full control under the Allow column.
- Click OK.
- Verify the program now opens.
Section 13: Damaged WMI on computer
- Press Windows+R keys.
- Type in eventvwr and then press Enter.
- Select Windows Logs and then Application. If there are WMI errors, this indicates a damaged WMI.
Restarting WMI can fix the WMI issue, contact IT for assistance with instructions on repairing your WMI.
Section 14: IPv6 enabled in Zone Alarm
In the firewall settings, clear IPv6 box.
Section 15: Computer name is longer than 15 characters
Rename your computer to 15 characters or less.
