| | Error: "The ODBC Client Interface cannot access the data source because SQL Connection Manager is not running at the specified port number" |
| Cause | The workstation cannot communicate either via TCP/IP or ports 1583/3351 are blocked. |
| Resolution | [BCB:3:Network warning:ECB]
- Verify that the Pervasive engine is running on the server
- Open Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Verify that the two Pervasive services are started for the Client Server edition or one Pervasive service is running for the Workgroup edition. Refresh the services by right-clicking and stopping them one at a time. When both are stopped, right-click and restart them.
- Ping the server by name and verify that the correct IP address is returned. The IP address returned should match the IP address of the server if the same test was run directly at the server.
- Until the network is fixed by a network technician a host file can be created as a temporary fix. The host file is located in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc. Enter a new line with the server name and the correct IP address and save the file with no extension.
- Perform the Telnet to verify that ports 1583 and 3351 are open and listening on the server. If the telnet response is delayed (longer than 2-3 seconds) this could indicate a network issue that needs to be addressed by a network technician. The telnet replies should be instant. If either test fails, contact a network technician to resolve the issue. If the telnet test fails and if you are running the Windows Firewall see How to open ports in the Windows Firewall for further instructions.
- If the connection tests do not fail, stop and restart Pervasive on the server. For further instruction see, How to manually stop and restart Pervasive or Actian Zen engines
- If that does not resolve uninstall and reinstall Pervasive at the server.
- If the Pervasive Log shows a Btrieve Status 3012, Go to Windows Start, Programs, Sage BusinessWorks, DBRegister and re-add the BWSYSTEM1400 pointing to the correct UNC path to the \\{Server}\Sage\BWData\System folder. Right click and select Update Database Names. This will recreate the DBNames file. The Pervasive Log can be accessed by selecting the Windows Start, Programs, Pervasive, PSQL10, Pervasive Log
