3012, 3014, 94, 170, 171 PSC Pervasive/Actian Error Transaction or Relational Engine (Desktop hangs)
Description
Cause
  • The PSQL Actian/Zen Database isn’t fully functioning and may be missing in Programs and Features and/or in Services
  • Server reboot after an update did not allow the Pervasive/Actian/Zen Database engines to restart
  • If everything was previously working and suddenly everyone is receiving this error, the Local Area Network (LAN) settings may have been incorrectly changed to Public from Domain, Private, or Work. Windows updates may change this setting. When the value is set to Public, Windows Firewall will behave entirely differently and start blocking Pervasive/Actian/Zen connection attempts.
  • The Actian/Zen PSQL database engine needs to run with elevated permissions on the server and workstations.
Resolution

[BCB:5:Third-party support:ECB]

Option 1: Ensure the Pervasive/Actian/Zen Database Engines are running on the server and/or the workstation

  1. On the affected machine or Server (if it affects all machines), Search or Run 'Services.msc'.
  2. Start or Restart the Actian Transactional and Relational Database Engines.
Note: In versions 24.2 and later, there is only one service called Actian Zen Enterprise Server.
  3. If on a Client machine, restart the Pervasive/Actian Client Database Engine
    Note:
In versions 24.2 and later, Actian Zen installs on the workstations as an application and there are no services.
  4. Open Sage.
  5. If the service must start manually on the server after each reboot even if it’s set to automatic, right click on each db engine and set the Startup type to "Automatic (Delayed Start).
  6. If you're still unable to open Sage and receiving the same error, proceed to Option 2.

Option 2: Possible Database Engine is corrupted or not fully functioning correctly:

  1. Run the PSQL System Analyzer via server name. See How do I test Pervasive/Actian communication from my workstation to the server and vice versa? (using Pervasive System Analyzer).
  2. If you find that the monitor fails with any of the above errors, install the Zen/Actian/Pervasive Server engine:
    1. See How do I uninstall Pervasive/Actian?
    2. Scrub the old engines in the registry and any leftover folders.
    3. Disable Antivirus before installing.
    4. See How do I manually install Actian PSQL version 12?. Follow Option 3 to install the Actian 64 Bit Server Edition.

If you're still unable to open Sage and receiving the same error, proceed to Option 3.

Option 3: If the error occurs suddenly for all users, the Local Area Network (LAN) settings may have been incorrectly changed to Public. This can occur due to a manual change or Windows Updates:

  1. Click the Windows start menu, right-click on Network, and select Properties.
Note: If you don't see Network, open Control Panel instead and look for and click on Network and Sharing Center or View network status and tasks (depending on your view settings in Control Panel).
  2. On the center screen, you will see your network. If it shows up as "Public network", and you aren't on a public network, click on Public network and change it to Work network or Domain network, depending on the options available and what network you are on.
  3. Verify you can launch Sage 300 CRE on the workstations.

Option 4: Actian/Zen missing in Programs and Features or Services

If the Actian/Zen database engine is missing in Programs and Features and/or is missing in Services and cannot be uninstalled from Programs and Features:

  • For versions 24.2 and later, see User's Guide for Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate Version 24 for installation instructions.
  • For versions 24.1 and earlier:
    1. Run the SetupClient32_x86 for the client or server version that is installed, e.g. \\localhost\Timberline Office\9.5\ACCOUNTING\WinInst\Prerequisites\Pervasive PSQL v12 SP1 Client Edition (x86)\SetupClient32_x86.exe.
    2. Select Uninstall.
    3. Run the install procedure in Option 3.

Option 5: Add Domain Admin credentials to the Actian/Zen service
