Release or disconnect users or tasks

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

If you can't perform exclusive tasks or receive errors like "resetting lock manager" or "license limit reached," you have stuck users or tasks. Disconnect these users or tasks to resolve the issue in Sage BusinessWorks.

Cause

A user closed a session without logging out of Sage BusinessWorks, or an error prevented the task from closing.

Resolution

CAUTION: If you’re experiencing the stuck user after a power outage see Issues with the program after experiencing a program crash before disconnecting users.

After performing the following steps, you may have to restart the server. Don’t reset all tasks and users if you aren’t able to restart the server.

Follow the steps to disconnect users

If you prefer to follow step-by step guidance, use the steps below.

  1. Have all users exit the program including yourself.
  2. Make sure no other applications are using the database engine. For example, Mitchell or CCC One.
  3. Click the Windows Start button to open the Windows Start screen then type DBRegister.
    • If you don’t find DBRegister
    • Right-click the existing Sage BusinessWorks icon on the desktop
    • Select Open File Location this will open the ...\BWProg folder
    • Double-click DBRegister.exe from the ...\BWProg folder
  4. In DBRegister, select the BWSystem1400 database.
  5. Click the Users button.
NOTE: If prompted, enter the local Windows Administrator ID and password for the Sage BusinessWorks server. If you don't have this login, perform these steps directly at the server.
  6. Click the Disconnect all Users button. NOTE: Disconnect all users even if there are no users showing.
  7. A warning message displays that you’re about to disconnect all users, click OK.
  8. Click OK, and click Close to exit DBRegister.
  9. Open Sage BusinessWorks and attempt your task again.

NOTE: If the error "Unable to open smcompanies or smusers" occurs, Sage BusinessWorks may have been running on the network at the time of the reset.
