Manual Migration requires copying files from your old server to your new server, set up directories and registry keys, and install the software as if it were an upgrade. You may need to choose this method if:
- You don't have network access to the old server
- You want to use the same name and IP address for the new server
If you choose to use the manual migration method:
- Macros may not work after migrating. See My macros do not work since our server migration
- You must update attachment file paths manually. See How do I correct my Project Management correspondence log attachments after migrating my data to another server or location?
Migration Tool migrations use tools found on the new server after installing the software. More information about the use of the Migration Tool is found in the Server Migration Full instructions and tips and tricks for using the migration tools are found in How to use the Migration Tool for Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate. These tools are available in version 9.8 Accounting Update 6.3 and all subsequent versions.
Both methods allow you to install a newer version of the software on the new server. Consult Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate and Sage Estimating (Pervasive SQL) Upgrade Paths to ensure you aren’t upgrading beyond the software's ability to upgrade your data. Depending on the versions you skipped, you may need to upgrade in place on the old server before migrating to a newer version on the new server. Consult your IT department for guidance on this decision.
You can find migration instructions in the Server Migration chapter of the User Guide for your product version. User Guides for all supported versions can be found in Product Documents or in the Documents folder of the downloaded installer.
See the links in Related Resources below for other migration questions. There are articles which detail steps for manual migrations under different version and operating system circumstances and one article which details the use of the Migration Tool.
Estimating, Document Management, Paperless Construction and MyAssistant migrations follow completely different procedures. See Related Resources.
