Program missing after failed upgrade

The desktop icon may be missing or look blank, start menu items are missing or blank, and trying to run the program from these icons produces an error and prompts you to locate the program.



  • Services running during installation such as Pervasive
  • Anti virus running during installation
  • Corrupted previous installation
  • Pending windows updates


CAUTION: This solution requires advanced knowledge of your computer's operating system. Contact your system administrator for assistance. Modifying your Windows Registry incorrectly can severely affect system operations. Sage is not responsible for operation issues caused by incorrectly modifying your Windows Registry. Always create a backup of your data before proceeding with advanced solutions.

Section 1: Run the upgrade again

  1. Reboot your computer.
  2. Refer to How to find data path and program path to locate the Updates folder in the data path, or you can download the installer again from Sage 50—U.S. Edition: Download Portal.
    Note: It is recommended to disable your anti-virus when installing, because the AV software real-time scanning may interfere with the installation. Refer to your anti-virus documentation.
  3. Run the upgrade installer.
    Note: It may help to run the installer as administrator. Refer to Installation freezes on Step 1 of 3 when _setup.exe needs to be run as administrator.
  4. Follow the prompts to complete the installation. If the problem still exists, proceed to Section 2.

Section 2: Uninstall the previous version of Sage and run the upgrade again

  1. Completely remove the previous version of Sage. Refer to How to manually remove the program.
  2. Run the upgrade installer again.
