Change a computer from a standalone install to a network install

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

To change from a standalone to a network version of Sage BusinessWorks, back up your data, uninstall the standalone edition, and install the network edition.

Resolution

The existing standalone computer will become the workgroup server

  1. Backup company and system files.
    • Ensure that you have a good backup and that it resides in a safe place
    • Don’t back up to the BWProg or BWData folders
  2. Uninstall the standalone installation of Sage BusinessWorks on the computer that will become the server.
  3. Share the existing folder with full control for all users that will be using Sage BusinessWorks.
  4. Install the network version of Sage BusinessWorks on top of your existing install using your product code.
  5. When prompted for the type of install, select Network, then enter WG for the product code. The product code is WG when changing your standalone computer to a workgroup server.
NOTE: You'll receive a message that you have the correct version of Pervasive/Actian installed.  Click OK to proceed with the installation.
  6. Log in to Sage BusinessWorks using your login. If you can’t see your data, restore the backup of your System and company files.
  7. Install the most current service pack after you restore the System Database.

The existing standalone computer will become the workgroup client

  1. Uninstall the database engine and uninstall the program.
  2. Install the Sage BusinessWorks client.
