Troubleshooting slow performance when printing

Summary

Tips for troubleshooting slow performance when printing in Sage BusinessWorks.

Resolution

Slow performance on the server and all workstations

  • Turn off and restart (cold boot) the server and each workstation to refresh system resources
  • Verify that all modules are in the same current month. For example, the OE module may be behind the AR and IC modules by several months. Close the OE module so that it is current with the other modules
  • Backup and rebuild the affected module
     NOTE:

If rebuilding AR, IC or OE, all modules must be rebuilt. Rebuild AR first then IC and then OE
  • One or more of the database engine components may be damaged at the server. Uninstall the database engine at the server and then reinstall

Slow performance on one or more workstations

  • Verify the workstation is not connected to the server through a wireless connection.  Sage BusinessWorks does not support running Sage BusinessWorks over a wireless connection
  • Examine the printer and printer settings. Ensure you are using a supported printer and supported environment see System Requirements: Sage BusinessWorks Accounting current version
NOTE: Due to the complexity of the environment, troubleshooting printing issues in a Remote Desktop/Citrix environment is not supported.  Consult your computer technician before making any changes
  • Verify that printer cables are functioning properly
  • Set the printer preferences to start printing immediately:
    1. Right-click the printer driver and select Properties.
    2. Click the Advanced tab.
    3. Under Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster, click Start printing immediately.
  • A DNS problem may impact performance. In one instance, performance improved after hard-coding three DNS server addresses at each workstation in the network configuration of TCP/IP
  • Update the NIC driver on the server
NOTE: Sage Software Support is not responsible for assisting with this function and takes no responsibility for changes made to your computers. Consult your network administrator before making changes.
  • If using a network printer set up a local printer at the workstation
