| How to upgrade Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate (in place)? |
Resolution | - This process applies if you are doing an in-place upgrade on an existing server, i.e., not moving the server to a new one.
- You must upgrade the server before upgrading the workstations.
- Confirm your server meets the new version system requirements. Find them at Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate Product Documents
- Contact vendors of any third-party programs you use to make sure they are compatible with the 300 CRE version you are upgrading to.
- Log into the server as a Sage 300CRE Accounting Administrator. Only administrators in the software can see all company folder paths.
How to tell: The Select Company dialogue is the first one you see when you open the Sage Desktop. Administrators see a Specify Folders button. If you do not see that button, you are not logged in as an administrator. - Know the location of your company data.
How to tell: The default location for data is C:\ProgramData\Sage\TIMBERLINE OFFICE. It also contains security settings, reports, and customizations. Some firms keep their company data in other locations. You can find these locations (per company) in the Select Company window. - Check the amount of available disk space you will have (after backing up). File Doctor requires disk space that is twice as large as the files you will be fixing.
Back-Up Run File Doctor NOTE: - File Doctor finds and fixes errors before you upgrade. Data loss is possible; ensure that you have your backup files.
- File Doctor can check and fix 1-2 GB of data per hour (depending on server speed). If you have large company files, we recommend running it after hours or overnight.
- Open the 300CRE Desktop.
- Choose Applications, Common Tasks, Tools, and then File Doctor.
- In the Print Selection window, choose All data folders, Compact good files, and Fix and compact bad files.
- Printer Setup should be Print to File by default (recommended).
- Click Start.
- The Print File Selection window lets you choose the name and location for your File Doctor report (log). Use .prn, the default format.
- Click Save.
- Once File Doctor finishes, review your report using File, Printouts.
- You can disregard these File Doctor messages:
- Unprintable characters value/radio/list/combo out of range
- "Record rebuilding complete" or "fixing file complete" at the end of the file
- These File Doctor messages indicate problems; contact Sage Support for help with them. In order to help troubleshoot, our support analyst will ask for a copy of your File Doctor report:
- "Record deleted" - Review this entry; if it is important, you can re-enter it
- "File deleted" - You may need to restore from the backup and determine why it was deleted
- "File in use" - File Doctor did not check this file; resolve the message and then run File Doctor again on just this file; see Error File in use or Record in use
