How to update to Sage Fixed Assets Premier 2024.1
Description
Cause

Sage Fixed Assets version 2024.1 is the yearly Tax update, updating Tax forms and calculation rules in compliance with current IRS rules. See the Sage Fixed Asset Release Notes for new features include in this release.

Note: Starting with Sage Fixed Assets 2023.1, Sage Fixed Assets installs SAP Crystal Reports runtime SP30, which can cause an issue with Crystal Reports runtime versions used for other products. See Crystal Runtime Version Conflict for more information.

Resolution

Notes on the 2024.1 update install:

  • The download of Sage Fixed Assets Premier version 2024.1 is a full version of the program
  • The downloaded file installs Sage Fixed Assets Premier Server side only
  • The Client will not update automatically and needs a second installation for the update to complete. See How to install a client for further details
  • For new installation of the Sage Fixed Assets program. See Download Sage Fixed Assets Premier 2024.1 for the product download

There are prerequisites required for Sage Fixed Assets to run properly:

  • If the installation detects that the NET 4.8 framework is not currently on the system, it will install it. You must reboot after the .NET installation before the Sage Fixed Assets installation will complete
  • Sage Standalone SBDDesktop (Client only)
  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Package (x86) See Error:"The type initializer for 'CrystalDecision.CrystalReports.Engine.CRPE' threw an exception." for a download of the prerequisite if it fails
  • Microsoft ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server (x64)
  • Microsoft SQL Server System CLR Types 13.0.1601.5 (R2) (server only)
  • Microsoft SQL Server System CLR Types 13.0.1601.5 (x64) (server only)
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Management Objects 13.0.1601.5 (R2) (server only)
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Management Objects 13.0.1601.5 (x64) (server only)

Note: For in place updates, a Database Conversion is required for all version of the program 2023.1 and prior. If not updating from 2023.1 or 2024.0, see the Updating from older versions: below for the update paths available.

Updating from 2023.1 or 2024.0 through the Sage Advisor Update:

The Sage Advisor Update will have a read-only notification the on client of the 2024.1 release via a pop-up message in the Microsoft Windows system tray.

To check manually:

  1. On the server where the Sage Fixed Assets Premier Server is installed: Click the Sage Advisor Update in the system tray or go to StartProgramsSage and open Sage Advisor Update
  2. If the 2024.1 release is not listed, click the Check for Updates button and it will list the available updates
  3. Put a check in the box beside the Sage Fixed Assets product listed and click Download & Install or Download Only
  4. Download & Install: will download the update and start the Installation process once the download completes:
    • Click Next, then Yes and Yes to uninstall the prior version then wait for the install to process to complete. Click Finish once completed
  5. Download only: Later, you can either open the Sage Advisor Update and click the Download & Install button to start the installation or Browse to C:\Sage Advisor Update\Sage.US.SBS.SFA.Premier and right-click the setup.exe and select Run as Administrator to start the installation:
    • Click Next, then Yes and Yes to uninstall the prior version then wait for the install to process to complete. Click Finish once complete
  6. Once finished, the Install will prompt whether to launch the Database Utility - Premier Depreciation & Tracking. If you selected No: Go to: StartProgramsSage Fixed Assetsright-click the Database Utility - Premier Depreciation & Tracking and select Run As Administrator.
    • Note: When prompted to log into the SQL Server on opening the Database Utility, a SQL User with SQL Administrator (SQL server role of sysadmin) permissions is required

Sage Fixed Assets - Database Conversion

  1. In the Database Utility - Premier Depreciation & Tracking and click the Convert
  2. Click Next, click Next, click Select All databases with a Conversion Status of Ready to Convert, click Next, click Convert, click Close when the conversion is complete
  3. On completion an Internet browser window opens that shows the names of the databases that converted, and their status. See How do I convert data? for more details

Note: For new installations of the Premier Server, the PDF Attachments path needs to be set up before exiting the Database Utility, See How to set up PDF attachment folder Network or Premier Depreciation for details.

Updating the Sage Fixed Assets Premier (Client Install):

Note: The following will need to be completed on all client workstations. If the client currently installed is version 2022.1 or prior, you must uninstall the existing client before proceeding:

  1. Using windows explorer: Browse to and Run (as Admin) the SFAServ\Premier Client\Setup.exe. This is the folder which the Sage Fixed Assets Premier Server components were installed on the Server.
  2. Click Next, click Yes, click Next and click Finish once the install process has completed.

Updating from older versions:

Warning: If updating from 2022.1 or prior once 2024.1 is installed without following the correct update path the databases cannot be converted directly to 2024.1. They will appear with a Conversion Status of Incompatible Version and will need a Sage Expert Services engagement to update. See How do I contact Sage Expert Services for details. Note: For in place updates, you must perform a Database Conversion for all version of the program 2023.1 and prior. When updating from versions 2023.0 and prior the update paths are:
