Description
Before you begin the upgrade
- Disable all antivirus, security software, and firewalls to ensure a complete installation
- Sage BusinessWorks 2023 and higher uses Actian Zen 15 as the database engine. Confirm compatibility with other software before upgrading
- Contact your third-party software provider to confirm compatibility with the current Sage BusinessWorks version
- Sign up for the Sage BusinessWorks Announcements forum in the Community Forum to receive future product notifications

Video 1: Network server upgrade. NOTE: When upgrading to 2021, the upgrade remains the same, but the database engine will be Pervasive.
Video 2: Standalones (Single-User) upgrade. NOTE: When upgrading to 2021, the upgrade remains the same, but the database engine will be Pervasive.
Follow the steps to upgrade
If you prefer to follow step-by-step guidance, use the steps below.
- Ensure your system meets our system requirements.
- Download the product.
- Use the checklist to upgrade to the current version. This includes checklists for Network, Standalone, Application/Remote Desktop Server Environments, and Remote Desktop Server environments.
- Download and install the current service pack for your version (if available). Install service packs on the server, terminal server, and all client workstations.
- While at the server, run the database update for all companies.
- If using a network version, upgrade the client workstations.
Upgrading from Sage BusinessWorks 2012 or earlier
- Upgrade to Sage BusinessWorks 2020 before upgrading to Sage BusinessWorks 2023 or higher
